The Town of Banff is renowned for its treated water at both ends of the pipe, being privileged with a mountain fresh ground water supply and treating effluent to the most stringent municipal regulations in the country. As the Manager of Water Services, you “Take Care of Banff” by ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, and high-quality water services to the community while minimizing environmental impact to Canada’s premier national park.

This senior management role requires a strong emphasis on health and safety, operational excellence, adherence to strict environmental regulations, team building, and in-depth industry knowledge. You are informed about the latest advancements in water treatment technologies, distribution systems, and industry best practices and can apply comprehensive industry knowledge to make informed decisions about system upgrades, technology adoption, and operational improvements.

You also bring strong leadership to the table by providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills, certifications, and career growth. Additionally, you apply your strong financial acumen, project management skills, effective communication (impeccable English ability in business writing and interpersonal and public speaking) as well as proven performance management skills.

You thrive on planning and anticipating controls to manage operational activities, while adapting to Mother Nature’s moods, aging infrastructure and contractor challenges that require your immediate response. You are inherently diligent, environmentally sensitive, a developer of talent and considered a jack of all trades and master of many.

Your cover letter and resume will feature your knowledge and understanding of the water/wastewater industry and your relevant qualifications (including a combination of education and experience):

post-secondary degree or equivalent in water and wastewater sciences,
current Alberta Environment multi-discipline certifications in water and wastewater; (considered an asset)
fifteen (15) years’ work experience (with at least five in a leadership role, preferably in a municipality) in the operation and maintenance of water/wastewater facilities and construction, and
you can demonstrate your technical expertise in MS Office suite (Outlook, Excel and Word), asset management software (WorkTech, GIS, or CMMS), financial software (Questica) and SCADA systems.
You have a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s licence (or equivalent). A clear driver’s abstract and RCMP criminal background check are required on hire.
