Boiler and Heating Technician

Our Physical Facilities department helps keep our campus running! We're looking looking for an experienced Boiler and Heating Technician to perform installation, maintenance, and repair work of all heating systems and equipment of buildings on campus.

Specific Accountabilities
Detailed planning of a preventive maintenance program and predicting timing for necessary upgrades and/or replacement of major equipment/systems such as boilers, pumps, and associated control systems, and other components
Developing safety and training standards for the Building Operators to ensure that work practices are safe and efficient and all work is completed in accordance with the appropriate provincial codes
Coordinating the necessary inspections with governing authorities to gain the appropriate certifications to operate the equipment
Inventory management
Establishing and maintaining relationships with specialized suppliers and service providers related to the boiler and heating field and purchasing equipment and parts as required
Attending department and project meetings and being available to provide inspections, prepare estimates, develop plans for projects and renovations and identify and correct building deficiencies
Qualification and Educational Requirements
Building Operator A or 4th Class Power Engineer certification (an equivalent certificate of competency from the Alberta Boiler's Branch is acceptable)
Alberta Type A Gas Fitter certification
Minimum 5+ years of work experience on all different types of manufactured boilers
Complete understanding of boiler and gas codes, rules, and regulations
Able to trouble-shoot and perform all job functions related to boiler repair
Experience with the detailed planning of a preventative maintenance program
Experience with inventory management and sourcing and ordering parts
Physically fit and capable of working in unpleasant environments including confined spaces, high temperatures, and loud noises
Able to work independently, with minimal supervision
Special Requirements
Due to the unpredictable nature of repair needs, this position may have to work weekends, nights, holidays or extended hours, especially during the winter months
Employment Terms & Benefits
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, permanent, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
This position has an annual salary starting of $78,000 per year, working 37.5 hours per week.
The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
A compressed work schedule to allow for an additional day off every 2 weeks will be considered after completing the probation period.
