Description: The Health Information Management Professional I is responsible for reviewing patient records for the purpose of classifying diagnoses and interventions, collecting and maintaining patient data. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: Graduate from a Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) recognized program for Health Information Management Professionals required. Registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) is required.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CA/CCI coding system. Thorough knowledge of CIHI Canadian Coding Standards. Thorough knowledge of medical essentials (anatomy, disease processes). Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong organizational skills. Accurate. Must have ability to prioritize. A working knowledge of computerized abstracting systems. (e.g. 3M Encoder, PowerAbstract) Ability to learn and utilize a variety of clinical and administrative computer systems. Ability to work with minimal supervision under considerable stress. Able to work as a team member to achieve area and department goals. Demonstrated ongoing professional and personal development. Knowledge of the Health Information Act.

Preferred Qualifications:
Classification and Coding Specialist Certification (CCCS).
