As the Foreperson, you “Take Care of Banff” by ensuring the quality of our water and water systems is exceptional. You join a dedicated group of employees known to work hard and show passion and caring for our environment through safe and diligent practices. We take pride in serving our community of 9,000 residents, with a tourist and seasonal population which can exceed 30,000/day.

You are a skilled operator, with Alberta Environment Level III certification (at a minimum) in water distribution and wastewater collection and Alberta Environment Level I certification (at a minimum) in water treatment. You enjoy the opportunity to role model and train others to perform at high very high standards, particularly in aspects of health and safety.

You have a comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of all aspects of water distribution and wastewater collection system operations. You can:

read and interpret piping/site servicing drawings, meters, gauges, recording devices and general station instrumentation.
use a variety of equipment and identify the equipment, tools, manpower and materials required to complete assigned projects.
interact professionally and respectfully with vendors, contractors, residents, visitors, and coworkers.
exercise discretion and judgment in decisions related to operational duties.
establish and maintain effective and productive work relationships with associates and across the leadership and employee teams.
perform cognitive and physical demands of the position (e.g. manual dexterity, good vision, ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions and to push, pull and lift items of up to 50lbs)
You have at least 5 years’ work experience as a leader, preferably in a municipal environment, and are a “natural” teacher, mentor and coach, who instils high pride, safety compliance, productivity and quality work in your team. As the Foreman, you set an impeccable standard of performance in maintaining accurate and up-to-date maintenance records and actively lead the water services crew in ensuring regulatory compliance.

Further qualifications for this position include a valid Alberta Class 3Q driver’s licence and clear driver’s abstract and valid basic first aid and CPR certificate. You have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Arc GIS software. Experience with heavy equipment operation and contract/project management is considered an asset.

This position is based on 40 hours per week and requires participation in our emergency on-call rotation. Rate of pay is certifications-based, and ranges based on experience. On-going training and development are part of the Water Services department’s mandate.
